چکیده

Excess nitrogen (N) is one of the most widespread and serious pollutants in environment, but wetlands can reduce N loads, ameliorating its damaging effects downstream. Tropical are highly productive experience high temperatures year-round, resulting potentially denitrification rates. However, few measurements have been reported for tropical wetlands. In this study, we measured within stands macrophytes at edge a lake (900 m length, 4 deep) Australia. We compared rates among sediments under emergent grass (giant bulrush, Actinoscirpus grossus), floating waterlilies (Nymphae spp.), from deeper sections lagoon with no macrophytes. also primary productivity epiphyton on those sediment. Denitrification sediment was higher (Dt = 3.3–52 mg m−2 h−1) than 1.9–3.6 mostly coupled nitrification (Dn). highest rich organic carbon (32.3%) (1.4%), during times year when nitrates (NOx−-N NO2−-N + NO3−-N) concentrations were relatively (>0.10 L−1). lowest macrophytes, which comprised area. these macrophyte values natural highlight potential role process pollution catchments.

heterogeneity within the orientalist discourse: representation of the orient in womens travelogues and mens paintings

from 1950s onward, new theories and critical approaches burgeoned across humanities. these theories were context-oriented; as a result, the analysis of discursive practices gained significance. thus, social, political, historical and cultural discourses that have been hitherto marginalized and considered inferior to literary texts, were introduced as important texts to be analyzed by critics. o...

Denitrification prevails over anammox in tropical mangrove sediments (Goa, India).

Denitrification, anammox (Anx) and di-nitrogen fixation were examined in two mangrove ecosystems- the anthropogenically influenced Divar and the relatively pristine Tuvem. Stratified sampling at 2 cm increments from 0 to 10 cm depth revealed denitrification as the main process of N₂ production in mangrove sediments. At Divar, denitrification was ∼3 times higher than at Tuvem with maximum activi...

Denitrification: an important pathway for nitrous oxide production in tropical mangrove sediments (Goa, India).

Net nitrous oxide production and denitrification activity were measured in two mangrove ecosystems of Goa, India. The relatively pristine site Tuvem was compared to Divar, which is prone to high nutrient input. Stratified sampling at 2-cm intervals within the 0- to 10-cm depth range showed that N2O production at both the locations decreased with depth. Elevated denitrification activity at Divar...

Nitrate levels modulate denitrification activity in tropical mangrove sediments (Goa, India).

A study to examine the short-term effect of nitrate and organic carbon addition on denitrification activity was carried out on sediments from a mangrove ecosystem prone to anthropogenic activities (Divar, Goa, India). Laboratory microcosms were prepared using sediment sectioned at every 2-cm-depth interval from the surface to 10 cm. The incubations were subjected to varying nitrate amendments a...

Meiofauna increases bacterial denitrification in marine sediments

Denitrification is a critical process that can alleviate the effects of excessive nitrogen availability in aquatic ecosystems subject to eutrophication. An important part of denitrification occurs in benthic systems where bioturbation by meiofauna (invertebrates <1 mm) and its effect on element cycling are still not well understood. Here we study the quantitative impact of meiofauna populations...
